i say forget the mortars and go all out for all gun skills, including the  no damage penalty for mods

I'm not sure about the nitty-gritty skill tree stuff, but I'd say go with SR3M over X95. They have extremely similar stats, but the thing that wins over for me is the sight. I hate the yellow glowing thing on the x95, and the classic red dot is nice on the SR3M. Also the silenced SR3M sounds like a laser when you shoot it ^^

Do you make more kills with mortars or guns ?
I kill more with guns so mortars is a bonus.
Gun stats* > 25 mortar

Penetration hands down. Even if it was +3 penetration I would take it over +10 damage. Up top, damage is inconsequential. It is your penetration numbers that kill those p2w madafakas.

* Gunstats is also a lie.
Fact that I can kill people with pistols without feeling handicapped makes full gunsmith seem vain.

Rate of fire, weapon max range, penetration - these are the things that makes a difference in the space of milliseconds when versing another pro. These things translates to actual kills.

Gunsmith is only there to make you feel good owning guns.

There are also other 'exotic' skills people often exclude from 'core' builds that I feel contribute more than gunsmith - like recoil reduction, move speed while ADS'ing**, raising enemy crosshair spread, double XP from longshots and eventually VSSK. Even that Spec Shottie would be a worthy investment come clanrace again.

** useful assuming you went down scout for range+rof and got +12 mobility along the way. Imagine firestabbing on the move with certain guns. Those DEVGRU guys mowing down nubs on evac never pausing for a second ? That. Although I would use it for other things like 1v1 at a distance vs pros. Scoping in and out ... again, those are precious milliseconds. You can always alter how you engage ppl but still, we're talking about spending SP's beyond core so ....

I would get gunsmith purely for the fact that you are able to max out a lot more weapons at 100 accuracy. The ability to get a gun to 100 accuracy i feel is the most important factor. I've started playing a bit more recently and working towards my final few SP so that I can max out my gunsmith completely. I only have mortars because I can afford to have mortars after owning everything else.
