Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
Thought this was an interesting comment.
I'm on the fence. I most likely would have completely ignored this game and not posted it if I had seen it was p2p rather than f2p with micros.
You know the gaming industry has taken a strange turn when one of a game's selling points is that it isn't free.

Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
Kine's dream recruitment drive team
- Spoiler:
- 1. We need Toxicacion
He will be in the top fifth percentile in a game like this. And judging from the trailer, we might need his piloting skills. Recruiting new blood from Toxikk will be important. Gonna need shock-n-awe type players to impress the kiddies into applying. Toxi can do that for us.
Plus... Toxikk - Toxication - It's meant to be.
2. Kyril - In case vehicular combat makes a big difference in matches, I'll get my NASA squad captain apply to Creed and join us there as well. He was my Ejh in SCon.
3. Third was my BravoTango for Contract Wars. Not sure if Unreal Tournament type arena shooters is his thing but goddamn the man has no conscience farming ragekids. Imagine Bravo without moral values on the battlefield. We can use that.
4. Others I'd love to see in-game
- Susliks = Comms and chemistry in 2man combo moves.
- NoBoty = He came from UT. @ Boty - Toxikk is basically Unreal Tournament 2015
- Harck = He is an arena type gladiator. Which is what Toxikk-Quake-UT is about.
- Ricky = Probably the support player with the best response time I have ever seen from BeGone. Near useless skill set in BeGone but one of the most sought after in games with small asymmetrical TDM maps where relative positions between players is more important than geography.

Sigh... seems like everyone's excited about this game. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing us really getting into one game - but I don't think I'll be able to join you guys for this one. No money over here...

Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
I will buy it.
@ Bravo, psh, I'm totally a team player ;D
Looks effing amazing. They certainly made the trailer look VERY good.
Not entirely sure about the vehicle combat though. That was what I disliked most about PS2.
Also, since college is coming up, I won't be as active until the summer.
I've done a quick google search. Games like this tend to die out quickly. That's my biggest concern.

Beginning to question your googling skillz bro. First Ghost Recon reviews now this lool.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Server list on gametracker. You'd find more using other methods I imagine.

10 years post launch btw.
Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
There have been plenty of quake remakes that have failed. The remakes have to be better than other remakes + the original in order to maintain a playerbase.
And Ghost Recon, in my opinion, is still p2w + shit balance on top of that.
EDIT:
Did some more googling. Quake/unreal tournament are pretty dead. That link you gave me had quite a few full servers on the first page, but after that the servers are empty. If you check steam stats, unreal tournament isn't even on the top 100 steam games played, meaning at best it has ~1600 players at peak time. Optimistically, that's ~500 players better than begone.
Quake style FPS's died out with the introduction of COD/Battlefield. I have hope for this remake because it seems to have a lot of money behind it.

Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
I'll simplify.
we are executing 3 options currently.
option 1: continue playing a game wrecked by hackers, glitches and an unoptimized netcode with an almost guarantee of no future fixes.
option 2: play a bunch of random games that gives more enjoyment than option 1 at the cost of branching away without future focus.
option 3: rally behind an upcoming game that has garnered the interest and hopes of the most hardcore FPS players within days of its announcement.
And you are worrying about option 3.

BeGone lasted all of 2 years.
So are we worried Toxikk will fail in 1 year ?
Games 'like these' didn't die out quickly. Their sequels failed. Their franchise predecessor were cult hits and decision makers involved in making their sequels failed in various ways, most notably - trying to be CoD / BF and or tried to 'update' core mechanics that made their originals the cult success it was.
Toxikk is the first in its' possible future franchise. I'd worry about Toxikk 2 instead.
--
Or more relevant to us; if you want to worry about anything, is Arena Shooters our 'thing' ?
BeGone is a Counterstrike clone. They kept to the basics of what made CS successful and they were rewarded with a loyal following.
Toxikk is Quake-UT
Totally different from CS-BeGone
You'll find both classified as the same genre but honestly I feel they are worlds apart. What you found in BeGone will not be in Toxikk. What you do have is a purely skill based shooter with limited reliance on teamwork. Where its mostly managing who stacks and carries the team + what do supports do in the mean time in-between team ganks ala DOTA.
Although (and sadly) that is what Creed seem to do best and prefer, the game will not be what some of our players are familiar with. That is a more valid concern.

Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
*** yes ppl still compete Quake in 2014 with prize money versus BeGone's immortality according to steam charts where 99% of quake and UT players do not launch from ***

Never said I wouldn't play it - I've offered to buy it for other people. Just voicing my concerns.

With only that one trailer to judge ... I'm thinking the game is going to be UT3 done right.
Alot is riding on the map design, movement and weapons. UT3 failed gameplay wise because the movement and shooting did not fit the maps that were designed for vehicular combat. Planetside got it almost right but it had a big open world-ish map to work with.
Best case scenario - Toxikk will have giant Crane type maps with Halo movement and firing.
Worst case - the game is poop.
Re: TOXIKK (Creed's Next Game)
The main reason I'm being so cautious is that you have to pay 15 bucks to play the game. To most of us, that's a pretty big amount.
I think we should hold off buying the game until one of us gets a good impression of it. Waiting 3-7 days really won't hurt us, and it's better than dumping an collective ~100+ bucks into a game that ends up being bad for us.
